Lunch Breaks & Slice Breaks: A Mover’s Guide to NYC Pizza

(by Lou Moves You — real, local, non-corporate NYC movers serving Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Williamsburg & all 5 boroughs)

Lunch is honestly one of the best things about working at a moving company in New York City — that, and getting to see how every type of person lives across the five boroughs. One morning we’re doing a move in a tiny Manhattan studio, then a hippy-dippy loft in Bushwick, and by 3pm we might be lugging furniture into a penthouse in Williamsburg or a railroad apartment in East Williamsburg.

And no matter where we are — Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Astoria, wherever — there’s always at least one pizza box in the kitchen. Happens every time.

Working for a local NYC moving company like Lou Moves You, there’s one thing we bring up more than anything else:

“What are we doing for lunch?”

Our first move usually starts around 9 AM… depending on Dunkin, the L train, and whatever chaos the universe throws at us. Walking into that first apartment — whether it’s in Bushwick or the Lower East Side — you can usually tell how the day is going to go.

We usually skip breakfast so we’re hungry later, but every once in a while you walk into a big move — like a fifth-floor walk-up in East Williamsburg or a heavy furniture situation in Williamsburg — and immediately regret not grabbing a Bacon, Egg & Cheese. (No ketchup. Maybe hot sauce.)

By the time you’ve lugged furniture up and down stairs across Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Williamsburg, and sometimes all three in one day, you want something good. And one of the perks of doing moves across these neighborhoods is you end up knowing every good slice spot within a mile radius.

So today we’re talking pizza — because if you’re moving someone in Bushwick, East Williamsburg, or Williamsburg, pizza is pretty much part of the job.

Here are my top 5 favorite pizza spots in NYC. Sometimes I hit them after a move, sometimes after too many margaritas. They always hit.

(No particular order — I’m not trying to start a fight.)

Rosa’s Pizza (Metropolitan Ave — Williamsburg/Bushwick border)

https://rosaspizzanyc.com

If you work as many moves in Bushwick, East Williamsburg, and Williamsburg as we do, you know Rosa’s Pizza on Metropolitan is a guaranteed win. It’s basically a staple for movers in the area.

    My usual picks:

    Ravioli slice

    Upside-down slice (my kids’ favorite)

Grab a Mexican Coke and some knots. Classic Williamsburg move lunch.

    Ace’s Pizza (Williamsburg)

This one sits right in Williamsburg, and trust me — we’ve eaten here between moves more times than I can count. Detroit-style, crispy edges, cheesy, heavy in the right way.

      My move-day order:

      Wings

      Caesar salad

Maybe a shot if the owner’s feeling generous

They’ve also got an old Nintendo and a really solid margarita. Great spot to reset after a morning moving sofas through East Williamsburg stairwells.

      L’Industrie (Williamsburg)

      https://www.lindustriebk.com

This spot is peak Williamsburg pizza culture. We end up here a lot after moves around Bedford Ave, Lorimer, or Grand Street.

I didn’t get the hype at first. Now? Every slice is a home run.

Last slice I had: sausage, pesto, ricotta. Wildly good.

Only complaint: They were playing Radiohead. Williamsburg gonna Williamsburg.

        Roberta’s (East Williamsburg)

        http://www.robertaspizza.com

This is the heart of Bushwick pizza culture. If you’re doing moves around Troutman, Bogart, Jefferson, or Flushing Ave, Roberta’s is always close by.

I used to live right near the Bushwick location and didn’t love it at the time — but now I think it’s great.

          Get:

          Bread & butter

          Cheesus Christ (off-menu, worth it)

Wood-fired, classic, and it hits especially well after a long Bushwick moving day.

Joe’s Pizza (Multiple locations, but we hit the Manhattan & Williamsburg ones the most)

          https://www.joespizzanyc.com

Joe’s is a New York classic, and the Williamsburg location is a lifesaver when we’re working near Bedford Ave. Same goes for the Manhattan spots after moves on the West Village or SoHo side.

Cheese, pep, sausage, white slice — all good.

White slice used to be king. Bring it back.

            Final Thoughts

When you work as NYC movers, especially in Bushwick, East Williamsburg, and Williamsburg, you become an expert in two things:

            1. How to get a couch up a stairwell
            2. Where to get a great slice nearby

These are my go-to pizza spots whether I’m doing a big move in Bushwick, a small apartment in East Williamsburg, or unloading a truck in Williamsburg.

If you ever book a move with us and want a food recommendation, just ask. After thousands of moves across these neighborhoods:

            We know where to eat.
